SERHAT KIR (1983) lives and works in between Ordu and İstanbul.
After completing his undergraduate studies majoring in Photography at Kocaeli University Fine Arts Faculty in 2012, he started his graduate studies at the Department of Photography of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Institute of Fine Arts. He started to work on the concept of space during his undergraduate education, and afterwards started to get involved in philosophical and sociological approaches to emphasize his studies. He focuses on the relationship between objects, spaces and portraiture. In his works, there are references to his personal stories and experiences, and describes his works as a semi-documentary and semi-fictional design process.
His works have been exhibited at Moon and Stars Young Photographers Award Exhibition, İstanbul (2012); Fotoİstanbul Besiktas International Festival of Photography (2014); Gallery Synthesis, Bulgaria (2015); İstanbul Photobook Festival (2016); BursaPhotoFest (2016); Elgiz Museum, İstanbul (2018) and Aspect Balkan Photography Festival, Thessaloniki, Greece (2018).
He has attended several workshops such as ‘Resource Utopia / Utopia as Source’, Goethe Institut İstanbul, Pavlov’s Dog Gallery Berlin & NOKS Independent Art Space, İstanbul (2018); Photobook Masterclass by Frederic Lezmi & Marcus Schaden, FUAM, İstanbul (2016); ‘Isolation and Belonging’ by Martina Hoogland Ivanow, GAPO & SALT, İstanbul (2015) and ‘Transforming Archival Materials into Artworks’ by Ipek Duben, SALT, İstanbul (2015).
